Greek Orthodox Church & Benevolent Society of St George
Our mission
To preserve and promote Greek culture, language, and traditions while fostering a strong, supportive, and inclusive community in Tasmania.
Welcome to the Greek Community of Tasmania, a vibrant and active organisation dedicated to celebrating and promoting Greek culture, heritage, and traditions within Tasmania. Established in 1953, we have been at the heart of the Greek-Australian community, fostering a sense of belonging and unity for all those who share a love for Hellenic culture.
Our community is centered around bringing people together—whether it’s through cultural events, language education, traditional Greek dancing, or religious celebrations at our Greek Orthodox Church of St. George in Hobart. We are proud to offer a range of programs and activities that help both young and old stay connected to their roots while engaging with the broader Tasmanian society.
As part of our mission, we actively support members of our community by offering services such as Greek language classes, dancing lessons, and cultural programs. We also work closely with the Consulate of Greece, providing essential services to Greek nationals and their families residing in Tasmania.
At the heart of everything we do is the belief in the importance of preserving our cultural identity while contributing to the multicultural fabric of Tasmania. Whether you are a long-standing member of our community or a newcomer, we welcome you to join us in celebrating the rich traditions, values, and heritage that define the Greek spirit.
We invite you to explore our website and discover the many ways you can get involved with the Greek Community of Tasmania, whether through attending an event, participating in a class, or simply learning more about our history and people.
