Statement from the President of the Greek Community of Tasmania
What an incredible weekend we’ve just experienced at the 2025 Estia Street Festival! This festival is a true reflection of the power of coming together—of people uniting to celebrate, share, and strengthen the bonds of our Hellenic culture.
The atmosphere was electric from the very first moment, with the smell of sizzling souvlaki and fresh loukoumades filling the air, the sounds of live Greek music bringing people to their feet, and our DJs setting the perfect Saturday night energy. On Sunday, the incredible skill and passion of our Hellenic dancers captivated audiences, showcasing the beauty and tradition that define our culture. Nicoletta’s cooking demonstrations were another festival highlight, bringing people together over our shared love of Greek food and tradition.
We were also deeply honoured to welcome His Eminence Archbishop Makarios, who witnessed firsthand the energy, warmth, and unity of our community in full swing. His presence was a special moment, reminding us of the strength that comes from staying connected—to each other, to our heritage, and to our faith.
This festival would not be possible without the dedication of our volunteers—the heart and soul of our community. Their efforts, from preparing food to organising performances, running stalls, and ensuring every detail was perfect, made this event the success that it was. It fills us with immense pride to see so many young people step up and play a key role in making it happen. Their passion and enthusiasm show that our culture is thriving and in safe hands for generations to come.
The Estia Street Festival is a celebration, but more than that, it is proof of the power of community—of what we can achieve when we come together with a shared purpose and a love for our culture. Thank you to everyone who joined us, supported us, and helped make this festival such a success. We look forward to welcoming you all back next year for another unforgettable celebration of all things Greek!
